Magnificat Terms & Conditions
Britain by Bicycle sets high standards and takes very seriously its responsibility for health and safety. We want you to have the best possible cycling experience during the event. All riders should understand that by entering the Magnificat they will be agreeing to the following terms and conditions:
Cyclists:
- The wearing of Hard Shell Style Helmets is compulsory for all riders under UCI regulations for 2009
- As the event takes place on the open road, riders must abide by the Highway Code at all times. Riders should be aware that when riding on a public highway the function of marshals is only to indicate direction and riders must decide whether the movement is safe.
- No accompanying vehicles are allowed to follow riders. Any participant failing to observe this regulation will be withdrawn from the event.
- The sportives are designed as events for serious cyclists who have the strength, endurance and stamina to successfully complete their chosen ride distance. Please ensure you have done the right level of training to go for your standard – whether it is Gold, Silver or Bronze
- Participants will be responsible for the roadworthiness of their own cycle
- The use of triathlon handlebars is discouraged. However, where riders do have them fitted they are not to be used when riding in a group.
- Cyclists participate in this event entirely at their own risk, and must rely on their own ability in dealing with all hazards, and must ride in a manner which is safe to themselves and others.
Participation:
- The organisation has limited the number of sportive participants to 2000 entries and reserves the right to close entry when that number is exceeded.
- Participation in the Magnificat featured rides is open to everyone, with or without a license.
- Participants must be at least 18 years of age on 1st June 2010
- All participants under the age of eighteen must gain the consent of their parent/guardian prior to completing their entry. Participants must be a minimum of 16 years old, and a parent or guardian must accompany riders under the age of eighteen.
- All participants under the age of 16 years of age must gain the consent of their Parent / Guardian prior to completing their entry for the 51 mile Communicat only. Participants must be a minimum of 14 years old, and a parent or guardian must accompany riders under the age of eighteen.
- All participants under the age of 12 years of age must gain the consent of an adult at least 18 years old, Parent / Guardian prior to completing their entry for the 1.9 mile Kiddicat only. Participants must be a minimum of 6 years old to take part.
Insurance:
- All participants are covered by British Cycling Third Party Public Liability insurance on the day.
- The cost of this insurance is included in the entry fee.
Payment:
- All payment remains the property of the organisation. No reimbursement will be made in case of withdrawal from the event for any existing reason.
- Payment should be made through online entry.
- An acknowledgement of receipt will be sent by e-mail
- Registered riders should be listed on the website within three working days
- Should a participant request to transfer to different event distance there will be an administration charge of £5.00. Should the different event distance be charged at a higher price the difference will have to be paid + administration charge. No refund will be given.
- Online registration is scheduled to close on Thursday 10th June 2010
- No changes can be undertaken once the closing date has passed.
Late Entry:
- Subject to availability of entry spaces, all late entry requests after the closing date will be handled on a best efforts basis.
- Riders may be able to take part but there will be a surcharge entry fee and timing chips will be subject to availability on the day.
Refund Policy:
- Applications are strictly personal, firm and binding and fees shall not be refunded for any reason. Applications can, under no circumstances, be transferred to another person, whatever the reasons.
Timing Chips and Clips:
- No deposit advance fee for the timing chip & clip will be requested. Each cyclist will sign for a unique ID numbered chip transponder at registration to attach to their bicycle as instructed.
- You must return your chip to the Official in the Finish Zone at the end of the ride before leaving the Finish area. In case of retirement, or forfeit, it must be returned to an Official or sent to us within two working days of the event date.
- Any participant who fails to return their above-mentioned timing chip will be invoiced for £20 GBP.
Timing and Controls:
- The controls have been carefully selected to provide two main functions - safe zone to take on fluids and food, and electronic timing mats to record split times which participants must cycle over.
- Participants that do not register at all the Controls for their chosen course will be automatically considered to be disqualified.
Timing & Standards:
- Sportive events are for experienced cyclists who can maintain a minimum average speed of 11mph (18kph).
- When the last rider for an event has crossed the start timing mat that time will dictate when the remote electronic timing controls will close based on an average speed of 11mph (18kph) and the distance to the Control.
- Riders who are judged to be cycling an average speed below the minimum of 11mph (18kph) will be asked to withdraw from the event and their timing chip will be removed.
- The withdrawn rider may continue the ride and will be unsupported. Alternatively a lift will be provided backed to Village HQ.
- Awards for excellence will be measured against the time that an individual cyclist completes the specified course. Three levels are recognised - Gold, Silver and Bronze awards.
- The standards adopted will take into account the sex and age of the cyclist on 1st June 2010 and will be categorised as follows:
- Male cyclist:18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+
- Female:18-39, 40+
Environment:
- Cycling is a very popular activity, in which the contact with nature is fundamental. We firmly ask you not to throw anything on the roads (paper, wrap, bottles....): the natural environment must be preserved and the longevity of the Magnificat event depends on this. Trash bags will be available for you at controls and stations where you can dispose of your empty bottles, wrappers etc. Give the environment the respect it deserves.
Disclaimer:
- No liability whatsoever shall attach to the organiser/promoter, promoting club/organisation, event sponsors, British Cycling or any event official or member of British Cycling or member of the promoting club /organisation in respect of any injury, loss or damage suffered by riders in or by reason of the event, unless such injury, loss or damage is proven to be caused by the negligence of the aforementioned.
- If riders do not abide by these terms and conditions the organisers will make all reasonable efforts to remove them from the event, and British Cycling will use all efforts to restrict participation in future British Cycling competitive and non-competitive events.
