Over the last 4 years, we have aligned our annual Sportive event with an opportunity to raise funds for Charity.
As our event has become an established calendar favourite for UK Sportive riders, and rider entries have grown, our fund raising results have similarly increased. Last year we estimate that well over £10,000 will have been raised i.e. at least £1,200 more from individual & team find raising efforts on top of the funds raised directly by us
Our Charity of choice has been the Fire Fighters Charity, and this year we are adding a further Charity aligned with our family & children’s events: Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Our methods of fund raising are varied:
- Individual / team rider sponsorship
- T-shirt sales (all proceeds)
- Volunteer group donations
- Supplier donations and organiser tariff (paid over to the charity)
- Post-event massage service ( 100% donations to The Fire Fighters Charity)
- Bucket collections
- Lilly UK community team challenge
- Colleges and company team-building
We would like to thank the following suppliers for their donations:
- Fyffes bananas
- Field Kitchen
- Lovingtons Ice Cream
In addition the following charities were chosen by our volunteer groups to receive our appreciation donation cheques totalling £445:
- Alzheimer Research
- Girl Guiding
- Basingstoke Air Cadet Squadron wing
- Move of Seed Support (MOSS). Supports education and business initiatives in Africa
Our message to all our riders for 2010, is please, when the distance you have entered is a personal challenge which will require commitment of training and courage and endurance on the day – ask your friends, family and work colleagues to give you sponsorship support as encouragement; either to The Fire Fighters Charity, or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation …. Or any other charity you personally would like to support.
